Asbury Methodist Church in Corpus Christi, known for its community outreach, has kicked off its Thanksgiving for 1,000 project for 2024. According to the Coastal Bend Food Bank, 1 in 5 children in the Coastal Bend face hunger.
Asbury blesses numerous families throughout the year through its Food Pantry, where families can collect food weekly. As an extension of the Food Pantry, the Thanksgiving for 1,000 project provides everything needed to cook a Thanksgiving meal at home, aiming to serve 1,000 families this year. This marks the fourth year of the project. The church relies on food and monetary donations from businesses, community members, and church partners to support families, including retired veterans.
How to Help: The church is seeking donations for the project again this year. Contributions can be made through food donations or online monetary gifts. Each Thanksgiving meal bag costs approximately $40 (including a $20 gift card for a protein of choice) and can feed a family of 4-6 people. Families will receive their meal bags the week before Thanksgiving. Food and monetary donations will be accepted through November 1 at Asbury Methodist Church, located at 7501 S. Staples St. in Corpus Christi. You can also make a donation online at Asbury Thanksgiving for 1,000, where a list of food items can also be found.
