Beryl has strengthened and become more organized through the day, forecast to become a high-end category 1 hurricane before landfall overnight tonight into early Monday morning. There is concern Beryl could undergo rapid intensification right before landfall. Thus, we are still messaging all should plan for a Category 2 hurricane. Beryl is now likely to make landfall around or just east of Matagorda Bay. Beryl remains compact in size with tropical storm force winds currently extending up to 115 miles northeast from its center.
Outer rain bands have extended into the Coastal Plains this afternoon and will continue across South Texas through Monday night. There is an elevated threat of isolated tornadoes and waterspouts across the region embedded with the rain bands. Rainfall amounts of 4-7" remain possible over the northern Coastal Bend and Victoria Crossroads. A Flood Watch remains in effect through Monday over the Victoria Crossroads. Conditions will continue to deteriorate overnight into Monday morning as Beryl makes landfall and proceeds northward inland.
