Star NFL player pays for fan’s grandfather’s funeral. A woman in Texas posted on Twitter looking to sell some JJ Watt merchandise to help pay for her grandfather’s funeral. Jennifer Simpson’s grandpa passed away the day after Father’s Day and she was trying to find a buyer for her JJ Watt Reeboks and Texans Jersey to raise much needed funds for his burial.
About twenty minutes after Simpson’s tweet, Watt responded personally. “Don’t sell your shoes and jersey, we’ll help with the funeral,” the Arizona Cardinal defensive lineman tweeted. “I’m sorry for your loss.” He reportedly then sent money to Simpson via Paypal to cover the funeral expenses.
Simpson’s family later said that Watt’s kindness “lifted a burden off” of them and they expressed gratitude for the hundreds of people who also helped them. "These people don't know us or our story," Simpson says. "They don't know what we've been going through this last month. It reminds me there is good in the world."
