The National Weather Service predicts an extended period of intense heat Friday through early next week. The maximum heat index values could exceed 110° degrees for inland portions of the City during the afternoon hours. A Heat Advisory has been issued for Friday from 1:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. and may be issued for Saturday and Sunday.
In addition to the heat, a plume of Saharan dust will move into the area on Sunday causing hazy conditions. Residents susceptible to particle pollution should consider reducing their activity levels or shortening the amount of time spent active outdoors.
In response to the extreme temperatures, the City of Corpus Christi will make cooling centers available to the public for extended hours. The cooling centers will be open from 9:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. starting on Friday, June 10 through Sunday, June 12.
