The Texas State Library & Archives Commission (TSLAC) recently awarded a $10,000 grant to Nueces County Public Libraries under its Texas Reads grant program. This project is just one of 44 made possible this year by a grant from the U.S. Institute of Museum and Library Services to the Texas State Library and Archives Commission under the provisions of the Library Services and Technology Act.
Nueces County Public Libraries is now circulating Sensory Backpacks, an all-in-one take home kit for families that are designed to help children build life skills, social skills, and reading comprehension. Backpacks will help children on the autism spectrum or sensitive to sensory overload by providing books, writing activities, tips for caregivers and sensory items.
Backpack kits will be available at Keach Family Library in Robstown and Bishop Branch Library in Bishop. Patrons will need a Nueces County Public Library card to checkout a Sensory Backpack for two weeks (14 days).
This project is made possible by a grant from the U.S. Institute of Museum and Library Services (Texas State Library and Archives Commission. Grant Number TXR-20011), (2020).
