George Strait has chosen “The Weight of the Badge” as the next single off his latest album “Honky Tonk Time Machine.”
The song is a tribute to policemen, and George wrote it with his son Bubba and Dean Dillon. George previously explained that the tune was inspired after meeting an officer during his Texan of the Year Award ceremony last year.
“I had an officer who was talking to (his grandson) Harvey and letting him play with his badge and hold it and pinning it on his shirt,” George shared. “And I just got to thinking about that because it really wasn’t that heavy until you put it on it and then it means, it really gets heavy.”
George adds, “So, that was one of those things I thought was a real important message especially these days and times.”
