Bamas Blog: 1966 was Ford’s year

As I stated in my last blog, 1966 was Ford’s year. Mustang, Torino, Galaxie and Thunderbird. They were collectively #1 in sales for all automakers. So Ford went racing. If you watched the“Ford Verses Ferrari” movie, you know the history of this car…..my favorite car of all… the GT 40. Named so because it’s 40 inches tall. If you have not seen the movie, rent it. It’s a great movie and certainly the best car racing movie as well. Finishing 1-2-3 at Lemans and Daytona, they became known as the “Ferrari eater”. The racing versions came with 427 big block power and was capable of 200+ mph speeds. 50 were built per racing rules and another 1000 were made for the street fr public sale and they came with 289 cubic inch engines. Most experts agree that there was never that many produced but the race versions bring millions in in auctions and street versions bring near that as well. The street versions were expensive when they came out…3 times the cost of a Vette so sales were very low.
