Bama's Blog: This baby's got power!

1955 Chrysler C -300 coupe was built 9 years before the GTO was born. Many people actually consider this car as the first Muscle Car because of the first “Performance” Hemi engine was introduced. You can chase the roots of “That thang got a Hemi in it?” slogan to this engine…..300 horsepower 331 cubic inch Firepower “Hemi” OHV V8. The term Hemi stands for Hemispherical combustion chamber in the cylinder head. The first Hemi actually appeared in 1951, but this is considered by many as the first performance one with dual Carter carbs and a high lift cam and they even put a 150 MPH speedometer in the car. Weighing in at a hefty 4000 pounds, it still offered plenty of performance on the track. Tim Flock won 13 consecutive races and the NASCAR title in 1955 with this car and engine. 1700 were manufactured and a few still exist. They easily bring close to six figures.
