I was inside my house yesterday around 3 and looked out my back window (we live on 9 acres on a hill in Dripping Springs, Texas ) and saw 3 firetrucks trying to put out a grassfire next door. The panic you feel in a situation like that is immediate and you really don’t know what to do. A tree that had fallen a couple of years ago on the adjoining fence-line caught fire and spread to the field next door. The Chief said he had no idea why it started and couldn’t explain it. It’s in a spot where nobody was around. I drove past it a couple of times the day before and thought ”Hmmm somebody is BBQing…that would be good for dinner”. Anyway, a half dozen firetrucks and a couple of hours and it was out. These folks do an incredible job and I am so grateful for them. It’s ironic because I built 3 affordable rent houses on the bottom of my property for Teachers and Sheriffs and Firefighters that are nearly finished and maybe a hundred yards from where the fire happened. I also had hired a guy to come and take down a couple of Cedar trees and to also cut up this same fallen tree that caught fire. He is coming next week. How weird is that. Thank you again to the Drip FD and to whoever was driving by and called it in. We feel very lucky.
