Bama's Bone Head: A Real Weekend at Bernie's

An Irish man is under arrest and facing a slew of fraud charges after he, with the help of a friend, dressed up his dead uncle and walked him into a post office to collect his pension check.

The real-life Weekend at Bernie's scene played out in Carlow, Ireland. Investigators say 40-year-old Declan Haughney took the body of his dead 66-year-old uncle Peadar Doyle, to a local post office and claimed his retirement payment. He brought along a friend to help carry the body. Their scheme was later discovered and both men were arrested and charged with attempted deception and attempted theft. Haughney is fighting the charges and claims his uncle died suddenly while at the post office after receiving the check. However, a postmortem examination determined that the uncle died earlier that morning of natural causes. The case is due back in court in the fall.
