C'mon Get Happy: Waitress Gets Paid Back for Kindness

Her name is Evoni Williams. She is 18 years old and works the morning shift at the Waffle House in La Marque, Texas, saving up for college. There was an elderly man there who sweetly asked her to cut up his ham.

Adrian Charpentier is the man's name--he's known as "Mr. Karaoke" for loving to sing at the local senior center. He had been in and out of the hospital, and had some muscle weakness. So he asked for help.

That day, a customer waiting to be seated caught Evoni's (known as Nini) kindness on her phone and put it on Facebook. The mayor of La Marque saw it and was touched enough that he honored her by proclaiming March 8th "Nini Williams Day!" The story went viral and caught the attention of Texas Southern University, and the school awarded her a $16,000 scholarship!

She hopes to study business administration and one day open her own restaurant or hair salon.

Nini took it all in stride. She said, "We treat customers like family."
