A woman from New Jersey named Kate McClure ran out of gas in the middle of the night last month in Philadelphia. And a homeless guy named Johnny Bobbitt Jr. helped her out. She didn't have any cash, so he walked to the nearest gas station, and used HIS last $20 to fill her tank up. She went back later to repay him, but wanted to do more. So, she set up a GoFundMe Page for him--hoping to raise a little money for him--and it has gone viral, raising more than $400,000 so far!! It turns out Johnny is a former Marine from North Carolina who ended up homeless after what he called a series of bad decisions and bad situations.
Kate is helping to change that. Not only has she raised a boatload of money for him, but she got him a financial advisor to make sure he does not burn through all that money--including setting up two trust funds for him. He can draw a small monthly salary from one fund and the other one is a retirement account. Johnny has some modest plans. He wants to buy some land with a small cabin at some point. For now, he is buying the truck he always wanted: a 1999 Ford Ranger.
