Harvey Djerf is a 95 year old WWII veteran who lives in Minnesota. He likes to walk around the neighborhood twice a day, every day. But, being 95, the walks are getting tougher. He has to often stop and catch his breath. So, a neighbor left a chair out for him so he could rest on his walks. Other neighbors saw that, and now, 12 neighbors throughout his daily walk have set out chairs for Harvey so he can sit down a rest a spell.
But it gets better! Harvey said he thought his neighbors saw him catching his breath and they felt pity for him--really, his neighbors just love him. Not only have they put out chairs for him, but on hot days they bring him lemonade, and other days they bring him homemade cookies!! Now, it is like a little competition---the neighbors all hope it is *their* chair he picks for a rest!
Harvey was touched by the neighbors' kindness. He has lived there for 66 years!! He and his wife of 69 years built their home there in 1951. His wife had a stroke recently and is in assisted living. That makes Harvey's neighbors' friendliness even more important.
