C'mon Get Happy: He Wanted to Buy Mom a TV!

A little boy went missing on Mother's Day--the reason was adorable. Six-year-old Raith Barlow left his home in the Melbourne suburb of Geelong on Mother's Day morning without telling anyone, just so he could buy a television for his mom as a surprise.  Raith used a broom to unlock his home's door latch while his mother was in the shower, then rode his bike a couple miles to a local supermarket to find the perfect gift for mom.

When they realized he was missing, they called the police. After crossing a busy highway on his bike, Raith went to a local supermarket and dragged a television to the cash register, which he tried to purchase it for 40 cents. Meanwhile, police had started searching for the young boy.

The supermarket's manager noticed Raith came to the store alone and couldn't let him return home on his own so he started to walk with Raith nearly a mile back to his home. Noticing police helicopters ahead of him, Bourdouvalis stopped to call the police and alert them to the young boy's whereabouts.

"I don't think we could ever do anything to thank the manager enough," Raith's mom told the newspaper. "When Raith got home, he gave me a hug and said, 'Mom, I went to buy you a TV'. It's hard because he doesn't grasp how big of a deal it was."
