Kai Johns and Robert Harmon have known each other since serving in the Army together as paratroopers in the mid-1990s. They had not seen each other in 16 years. Kai got sick with serious kidney troubles. Robert heard about Kai's troubles--got checked--and it turns out, HE WAS A MATCH!! Better than that, Robert was willing to donate a kidney to his old friend!!
Once Robert saw in a Facebook post that Kai was sick and needed help, he didn’t hesitate. Even though he has a wife and kids himself, Robert knew this was the right thing to do, going so far as to say he would have done the same for “any other close Army brothers and sisters” in his life.
The three-hour surgery was completed last week and immediately after it was over, Kai said he felt energized. Both friends are now recovering and their families started a website for donations to cover the expenses of the procedure. Thanks to Robert’s selfless action, these two guys can continue their relationship, which is sure to grow stronger because of the crisis they’ve been through and conquered together.
