Bama Brown moved to Odessa, Texas from Alabama when he was seventeen. That's where the "Bama" nickname came from. Bama was trained in oil and gas and roughnecked on rigs and did almost every kind of oil-related job. He was in that business until he moved to Austin in 1988 when he was thirty and went into radio on Z102 as a part-time jock. He moved to mornings and did the Bo And Bama show for three years at Z and then went to KVET, then KASE, and back to KVET and has been here ever since.

Bama Brown was inducted into the Texas Radio Hall of Fame Class of 2020 and is recognized as one of the broadcasting greats in the Lone Star State.

Bama has been married to his wife Jamie for twenty-five years and they have a daughter, Alex, who is a graduate of Baylor Law school.
