Teenagers Amaze Me All the Time--And For The Right Reasons!

Sometimes you meet kids the same age that could not be at more different stages of life! It is crazy. Chris and I go to Tony C's all the time, and there is a hostess there who knows me by name--because I am not exaggerating, we go there all the time! I have joked a few times about wanting her to meet my 27-year-old stepson. She is a lovely young woman: friendly, smart, funny, does a good job as a hostess--all around very mature. Tonight I brought it up again, as he was having dinner with us. She kind of chided me, saying, "Heather, how old do you think I am?" I guessed 23.

She is 17 and still in high school. This tells you a couple of things--I am terrible at judging ages. (This is probably why I continue to think I look pretty good for MY age!) I should never try to be a matchmaker. Two people of the same age could not be more different, and it is just so stark sometimes. My son, Brendan, who just graduated high school (to be fair, he is on the spectrum and has different circumstances) is so much less mature than this young lady, who has been working there for several months--it just blows me away. Kudos to her. And I will keep my sons away. :-)
