In 1943, England had really no oil reserves to fight the war with. Their oilfield generated about 300 drums a day when they needed about 150,000. They worked out a deal with America to bring rigs and roughnecks over on ships and drill for oil. They had four rigs on ships but only three made it as one was sunk by a U-boat. They drilled in Sherwood Forest which is where England's oilfield was. They finished in 1944 and headed back. One American died but they were able to get enough oil to finish the war. They have a statue in England honoring the men and one in Oklahoma also.
