Blake and Gwen and Chris and Heather--All Happy

Blake and Gwen got married this weekend. My husband Chris and I celebrated our anniversary on the 6th. Happiness all around! You know when Blake Shelton married Miranda Lambert, it was pretty much music royalty getting together. They were feisty and fun together--hunting, fishing, drinking, getting tattoos, singing--all very romantic. When it all went sideways, I think that all of us, as country music fans were sad for the couple and a little scared for Blake. I mean, Miranda did sing 'Crazy Ex-Girlfriend' and 'Kerosene' and is known for being a little wild. I, like a lot of people, wanted to know what happened--which really is none of my business--and happily, I never found out.

And along came Gwen Stefani...now I have been a fan of hers since se was in No Doubt. She is also a fiesty, entertaining woman--known for songs like 'Just a Girl' and 'Don't Speak'. She wore blue hair and bindis on her forehead, and looked like a skater chick early in her career. More recently, she went high-fashion, with the glamorous hair and signature lipstick. If you had asked me who, in the whole wide world was the next person Blake Shelton was going to date--it would NEVER be Gwen Stefani. Here they are: married!!

It just goes to show you that you never know who will make you happy. When Chris and I met--I was blown away--here was this handsome, charming man who was interested in me. Now, I had not had lots of luck in love. So I decided to dump my normal instincts and choose differently. When my instinct was to say no, I said yes. Where it was to get neurotic and insecure and overthink things, I would journal and chill. (Now, I did the 'say yes to everything' in life, too, which led me to things like: rappelling down the side of a building for Make-a-Wish). Chris is the funniest, smartest man I have ever known, and also the most caring. If you asked me when I first met him if that was the case, I was not sure. He was a little bit of a tough nut to crack. Once I stalked him a little (an inside joke of ours--he claims I stalked him--I did NOT.) and got to know him better, I knew I had hit the jackpot. We come from very different personal backgrounds, extremely different professional backgrounds, and we could not be more meant for each other. It just goes to show--whether you are Blake and Gwen or you are me and Chris (Chris and I?), you never know where the perfect person is until you say yes to the things that you might have said no to in the past. Celebrating our anniversary reminded me that I want to marry him every day. I am the luckiest woman!
