I just started reading Jen Hatmaker’s book, Simple and Free, a 2021 update of her book, 7. It is already getting under my skin as I look in my refrigerator, my closet, and my purse. From what I can gather, she looked at her life, and her consumption of food and the money she spent and the clothes and just generally how good she had it compared to the rest of the world, and decided to make some changes. Now, one of the things I love about Jen is that she’s so very real. The way she wrote the book was as a real-time blog—so the reader would get to experience it along with her, rather than a sanitized version months later. When she’s frustrated, the reader gets to feel that. Elated? You get to experience that as well. Since I just began the book, I anticipate getting rid of some of my belongings and perhaps trying to change some of our eating habits. I will keep you posted about whether my family tries any of the changes with me or if they balk at electronics fasts (!).
No matter what happens, you know in a Jen Hatmaker book you will laugh and think and be challenged.
