Marty Robbins, country singer, was also a NASCAR stock car driver. I was watching the Darlington race yesterday and they do what they call "Throwback" paint schemes. Tyler Reddick was sporting Marty's Lavender and Yellow paint scheme and it looked pretty cool. Marty was never really competitive in the 70's with his racing. He was serious with it but more impotantly, he did it to have fun. He was rich and didn't need a sponsor. In fact had one name on the quarter panel..."Marty Robbins". I remember seeing him run at Talladega in the early 70's. He always wanted to see if he could run with the winners and he left off the carb plate that made his car run faster. he kept up with the leaders and was gonna be rookie of the race but confessed to NASCAR he was cheating and got disqualified. He filmed an apology and you can watch it on you tube.
