Kayla Denney of Taft, Texas, had a big year as the lead animal control officer of the city’s animal control department, saving 565 dogs and cats.
She was able to do it with plenty of support. She inspired her Facebook friends – and then others in the community – to make big donations.
So much was donated that she was able to get the local shelter up and running, keeping every animal alive until a forever home was found for them.
Because of her hard work and big success, she won the 2019 Petco Foundation Unsung Hero award, which came with a $35,000 grand prize.
Kayla is proud of her accomplishments and is excited to keep things going by using all of the prize money to keep the shelter rolling – and saving even more animals.
