The story just keeps getting better!! Saturday, ESPN's College Gameday was at the Iowa-Iowa State rivalry game. Carson King was a goofy student who made a sign he thought would be funny. It said: 'Busch Light Supply Needs Replenished' and then added his Venmo information. Well--as soon as the sign was seen, he had about $400 in his account. By the end of the game, he had about $5000 in the account, and the number keeps growing. Carson spoke to his family about what to do with all the money. He decided to keep $15 for a case of beer...and then to donate all the rest to the University of Iowa Children's Hospital, that looks out over the stadium. (You've probably seen videos of the football games stopping to wave at the sick kids in the hospital. Amazing!)
So, Busch Beer heard about it. Venmo heard about it. Both companies said they would match the money in the account, earmarked for the Children's Hospital. Now--the total? Close to $60,000!!
When Carson called the Children's Hospital to speak to someone about the donation, the receptionist immediately recognized his name and said they were waiting to talk to him!
The plan for Carson is to leave the account for the Children's Hospital open through the end of September. He will then go to the hospital and have a tour and meet some of the kids and then present the big check. Who knew his silly sense of humor would have such a positive impact!! Great job, Carson!
