Julia Hawkins is 103 years old. She just won the 50 and 100 meter dashes in the National Senior Games in New Mexico. She set a record for the 50 meter event, running it in just over 21 seconds. She is also the first woman to ever compete in the 100+ category.
Julia says she has always liked competition--and with running, she just goes out there and doesn't have to rely on anyone but herself! She did not beat her own best time in the games--but DID finish the 100 meter dash in just over 46 seconds.
The Louisiana woman is a retired teacher who doesn't smoke or drink, and says that is part of why she is so healthy at 103. She also lives on an acre of land in Baton Rouge and works it herself. She says she has 30 Bonsai bushes--some are 50 years old. She says working the land also keeps her healthy and busy!
