Walt Hollier, who lives in Round Rock found out last summer that he didn't have long to live. He says that when he was diagnosed, he was given three to six months. His biggest worry was what would happen to his dogs, Doc and Diego. Doc was easy -- he'll go to family. He said Diego was a little more of a challenge. He's a Red Heeler, and loves to run and be outside...the man said he didn't want to pass away and leave Diego in limbo.
Hollier turned to Facebook. He said it would bring him great comfort when he died to know that he is well taken care of. In the Facebook post, he said he lived in the Austin area, and wanted to find a great home for Diego. He had the post shared almost 100,000 times and got about 10,000 messages. The response actually crashed his computer and phone.
Among all those clicks and shares and comments was one from the Last Resort Recovery Center outside of Smithville, a rehab center for men recovering from addiction. Hollier took Diego to the center Sunday. Diego will be a part of their recovery. Even though the reason for rehoming Diego is a sad one, the response has left Hollier feeling just a little bit better. He is happy Diego is going to be helping men in need to get better as he lives out his life.
