Usually, athletes get in trouble if they are disqualifies--but they do not usually get DQed for doing something wonderful. Sean Rausch is a high school student in Utah. He runs cross-country and broke a rule during a championship meet and got disqualified. Why? To help his teammate, Blake Lewis. There were 200 meters left in the 5K race and Sean saw that Blake went down with a broken leg. Sean knew the rules, and knew if he touched another runner, he would be disqualified. He did not care. Sean went and picked up Blake and carried him to the finish line.
Sean said Blake was screaming the whole way, but I kept telling him, 'We're a family, we're a team, and we're all in this together.'
Blake is a junior, so even though he was also disqualified, he will be able to compete again next year. Sean is a senior--so this was his last big meet. That is love between teammates.
