C'mon Get Happy: Symba the Tubby Tabby!

Meet Symba!! A 35-pound feline named Symba has found a forever home with a family that vows to help the big cat lose some weight. The six-year-old tabby was taken in by the Humane Rescue Alliance in Washington, D.C. after Symba’s owner moved into a retirement home and was unable to continue to care for the animal. Staff at the shelter hoped to find someone committed to help Symba get in shape to adopt him. Happily, a Maryland family agreed to continue the supervised diet and exercise program set up by the shelter staff. They even set up a Facebook page so you can keep up with his progress. The videos on the page are great. Symba isn't super coordinated for a cat...

The kitty is still getting used to his new surroundings before his new owners start his diet and exercise programs. “He is adjusting. He’s slowly making progress. He’s purring a lot with his back scratches,” said Berkeley. “It’s almost like practice having a baby for my fiancé and me. He really needs a lot of care, a lot of medical stuff. He’s currently not eating a lot so we’re constantly going into the room to offer him things.”

The family says, "We’ve got three cats and two hamsters now and we’re done."
