Seattle Seahawks defensive end Cliff Avril has had a good career in the NFL. He’s been a productive player and has made quite a bit of money. Now that he’s at the point in his life where he’s able to give back, he’s making the most of it by building homes and a school in Haiti, which is where his parents were born. Before last season started, Avril promised to build one house in Haiti for every quarterback sack got. He had his best season ever, with 11.5 sacks.
So he traveled to Haiti – along with some fellow players, friends and family members – to get to work earlier this year. He’s making good on his promise and is responsible for having 12 houses built. And, as an added bonus, he’s also renovating a school and making sure people in the community have clean water. Avril has had such a wonderful time with the project that he intends to make the same pledge this season. For the people of Haiti, the more quarterback sacks, the better.
One of the things Cliff said was--that even though we mostly hear about the poverty in Haiti, there are beautiful parts as well. In between restoring the school and building homes in an impoverished area, the guys who came with Cliff--many from the Seahawks--were able to have a fun, fancy birthday party for BeastMode--Marshawn Lynch!!
