If you buy a ring at a flea market, usually the best-case scenario is that it doesn't turn your finger green. Well, this woman's story just redefined that best-case scenario. A woman in London paid $15 for a costume jewelry ring at a flea market about 30 years ago. (BTW--in England they apparently call that a 'car boot sale'). It is a BIG ring--and most people thought it was just costume jewelry because it was so big. The woman who owned it for the past 30 years wore it all the time--working, doing chores, whatever--she thought it was nothing special.
Recently a jeweler saw the ring, and told the woman he thought it was real and she should have it appraised. It turns out it IS real. It is a 26.27 carat white diamond...it is now going to be auctioned off at Sotheby's in London on June 7th. It is expected to bring in almost a half a million dollars!!
