Viper Venom may play a role in the fight against COVID-19

"Snake! Why did it have to be SNAKES!" Indiana Jones - Temple Of Doom

Turns out, snakes may not be that bad afterall. In fact, one snake may help in the COVID-19 fight.

Researchers in Brazil how a highly venomous snake, the deadly jararacussu pit viper, may have a molecule in its venom that will fight the virus that causes COVID-19.

They found that a molecule in the venom of the viper inhibited coronavirus reproduction in monkey cells by 75%, a possible first step toward a drug to combat the disease.

Professor Rafael Guido of the University of Sao Paulo authored the study and says it the first step and reminds everyone it's a long journey .

The jararacussu pit viper is one of the largest snakes in Brazil, measuring up to 6 feet long.

WARNING: DO NOT go to Brazil looking for the deadly viper! There is still plenty of research to be done....also a bite from the viper will kill you, kind of defeating the purpse.

There is no timeline yet on when they will be able to test the substance in human cells
