April is World Autism Awareness month and Richard Sexton of Charlotte, NC is gearing up to run a marathon to raise awareness and funds.
Sexton is an experienced ultra-marathoner. He plans on running for 30 days from Hothouse, N.C., to Surfside Beach, S.C., from April 28 to May 26 while carrying a slamball.
The 25 pound slamball is named “Slappy” and it will represent the weight that families and those affected by autism must carry every day. Sexton will carry it in a rucksack. His run will total approximately 750 mile. The goal is to raise $50,000 for funds and Autism awareness.
He says he was inspired by his child who was adopted from China and by his students as an early childhood education substitute teacher.

Champion Autism Network has already raised $10,000 towards the cause.
