The Alamodome is getting a nearly-$17 million facelift next summer.
The popular San Antonio arena will get 18 brand new suites in addition to a remodel for its existing 52 suites, plus renovated concessions and main concourse, KENS5 reports, citing a filing with the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation. The Alamodome will also see updated restrooms, replaced elevators and a Hall of Fame renovation.
This $16.88 makeover is part of $23.2 million approved by the city for Alamodome improvements in this year's budget, the news outlet reported. An additional $109 million in renovations are being planned through 2028.
"We look forward to planned improvements that will maintain the life of the facility and will also allow us to maintain our competitiveness to attract major sports, concerts and other headline events," said the city's Executive Director of Convention and Sports Facilities Patrica Cantor.
This is the Alamodome's first full remodel in eight years. In 2014, the venue underwent a $43.5 makeover that included a widened concourse, upgraded locker rooms and a new scoreboard.
Construction is expected to begin on June 1, 2023 with a completion date of early 2024, ahead of NCAA Division 1 Men's Basketball Tournament Final Four to be hosted there in 2025. Construction isn't expected to affect the XFL's schedule, which just announced a rebirth in San Antonio.
