PUC Ends Moratorium On Utility Cutoffs For Nonpayment

The moratorium on utility cutoffs for unpaid bills is at an end. The Public Utilities Commission ended the moratorium on Friday, saying electricity, water, and sewer providers had to cover their expenses. The moratorium was put into effect after the winter storm in February caused widespread power outages. A similar moratorium last year was intended to help people make it through the pandemic. Utility customers will start receiving cutoff notices as the year's hottest weather gets underway, and extra federal unemployment benefits end.
