The head of the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power’s electric unit has been placed on administrative leave – apparently with no official explanation.

Aram Benyamin, a senior assistant general manager who’s been with DWP for 30 years, is considered an ally of employee union boss Brian D’Arcy – and serves as one of the trustees controlling the Joint Safety and Training Institutes.

The Institutes and D’Arcy have refused to make public financial records detailing how more than $40-million in ratepayer money has been used over the last decade.

Benyamin told the Los Angeles Times he was given no details about the administrative action, and said he had no plans to retire.
